Dear Parents
These are some points for the following days.
Tuesday 18th Dress Rehearsal- children are to wear the clothes we told you earlier when we gave them their part. Check Diary.
Wednesday 19th- Concert. Children wear same clothes as Tuesday. In case they dirt their outfit on Tuesday, those who are narrators wearing casual clothes can wear another smart casual outfit. The choir have to wear jeans and red top. Small bag with lunch and bottle. After the concert children can go home with you. Kindly follow the instructions given to you on the day by Sr Antonia or any other member of the SMT.
Thursday 20th- Party. Children wear casual clothes. Small bag with empty lunch box and cup/ bottle. Please send a bag where we can put all the Christmas crafts we did so the children can use them to decorate at home.

Today we started Guided Reading. Children were given a book and asked to read a sentence from it. They can keep the book at home and read it every day. Please help them to do so using phonics and hope that by now you are aware of the sight words we did so that you do not let the kids spell them but read them by heart.
THE BOOKS ARE TO BE COLLECTED IN GOOD CONDITION NEXT TUESDAY .
Please note that the paper for the choice of foods during healthy week you have to print it and send it to school together with the money.

Today we did the letter Qq and so we came to the end of the English Letters Workbook. Please note that this workbook should be kept at home from now on. You can use it to revise the letters and the phonological games will help children to listen to the sounds of the letters.

On Monday 19th November we have an outing as part of the Healthy week activities.
Place: Spinach Fitness Gym.
Fee : 5 euro
Transport :3 euro

Children come to school as usual. They bring a small bag with lunch and bottle.
Kindly send the money for the outing from Thursday on wards since we have to collect the money for the Borza ta San Martin as well this week.
May I remind you about the consent form for outings. If we do not get it before the 15th of November we cannot take the children for the outing.
Parents Day is on the 6th December. So as to accommodate everyone I would like you to give me an idea of the best time for you. I will do my best to start early (around 7:15 am) for those who would like to come before they go to work. But please keep in mind that I have 24 kids in class and so we have to be a bit flexible as well 😊
Kindly write me a note on the communication book saying at what time is most convenient for you. eg. between 8am- 9am.

Please note that when you send a note on the copybook you have to inform you children to give it to me. I can not check all the notebooks every day but will read the notes you send if the children give them to me.
Today Maths we did What comes before. Some pupils found it very difficult to say the number that comes before a particular number. eg ___,5 they had to say 4. Work was done with the help of the number line. Please do some practice at home.
English we did the letter Bb. Practice writing both the capital and small letter.

Today we did the letter Uu and worked on numbers in descending order. Some children found it difficult to put 3 numbers in order eg 3,5,9, and they had to start from the biggest 9,5,3. I Encourage you to do some practice.

Today we did a game with sight words we found that most of the children do not know them yet or worse they tried spelling them with phonics. May I remind you to revise them everyday as these words are crucial for when we start guided reading. Sight words cannot be spelled. Kids have to look at them and say them.
The handout they have for homework is a revision of capital and small letters. Please let the children work on their own as much as possible. THEY HAVE TO TELL YOU WHAT THEY HAVE TO DO.
Today we did more work on descending order putting numbers in order10-1. please do more practice at home. Some children also need to revise the writing of the numbers.
English we did the letter Oo.
If you have empty toilet or kitchen rolls pls send them as we will use them for crafts.

May I also remind you about the colour of the socks because we have children coming to school in white and black socks. Please make sure socks are grey because in few weeks time we will have to take action and reduce some points.

I would also like to inform you that before we left school I told the children to tell you to at least read a book for them everyday.. hope you got the message before you read this note! 😊

1st October
Today we did capital and small letters. I noticed that some of the children need some more practice. although we will be doing more work I would like you to do some revision at home either matching letters on cards or showing clips on you tube on capital and lower case letters. Please note that the children who were helped during classwork had their worked marked with the word helped.
Please note that the children have a form in their pocket file about the fruit and milk scheme. Kindly fill and send it back to school .

2nd October
Today we did number 2 and the letter S and the children were a bit confused when they had to write the number and the letter. Please do some practice at home.
We also read the story Funny Fred from which we learnt the tricky words would,be,get, are.
Kindly note that we call them tricky words because these words cannot be spelled with phonics but have to be learnt by heart. They have to read them and revise them everyday if possible as young children tend to forget.

Today we did the number 3 and the letter Aa. I noticed that some children need to do some practice as they found it hard to write the capital letter A and the number 3.
For tomorrow please bring an empty lunch box as we will be doing a cooking activity and kids will get the food prepared at school with them home. The size of the lunch box should be good to fit in a rice cake.

Today we did the letter Tt. It means that now we can start building some cvc words like at and sat.
You can help kids by playing with letter card using the phonic sounds of the letters.

Maths. We did more work on numbers in general. Kids used interlocking blocks to make towers showing numbers 1-7. This helped them count and show the value of the numbers.

Today we did number 5. Some of the children need some more practice in writing the number. I am also making them familiar with the numbers in words through games.

I am sending the workbook Success Criteria. This book is for you not for the children. Please bring it with you for the meeting we will be having with Ms Bonanno as she will be explaining how kids are assessed.

Dear parents
I am sending two NESSY books with your children. Please cover and label them and send them to school tomorrow.
We also need a pocket with two compartments. It must be empty and labeled. We have kids putting pencils in their mouth and its better not to share germs. So to prevent I am going to put the stationary we have at school in individual pockets and keep them in class.
In the folders please find the bill for the books and stationary. KINDLY PUT THE MONEY IN A SEALED ENVELOPE ADDRESSED TO SR.ANTONIA WITH THE CHILD'S NAME.

Today we did more work on numbers from 1-6.
English we did the letter N so by the end of the week we will be able to build more words using the first group of letters (s,a,t,i,p,n).
We also did a science lesson on pushing and pulling. It will be good if children experience situations of pulling and pushing things in everyday life.. We did some games at school during the lesson.

Dear parents sorry but today we had no internet at school and I couldnt write the blog early as usual.
First of all I would like to thank you for coming for the meeting this morning.
Am glad that some difficulties were raised during the meeting because I would like to remind you that we are still settling in and young children need time and practice to learn things. That is why it is important that from time to time you keep revising the work we do. It does not have to be a writing activity all the time as children enjoy themselves doing everyday things which help them learn without knowing. Helping at home and counting socks while mummy is take out a load of clothes form the washing machine can be much more fun and they are learning anyway. Letting them pay when you take them shopping with you will start making them familiar with money and the value of coins. These were just 2 examples how we can teach the children without putting a lot of stress and make learning more enjoyable.

16th October
Today we did number 10. This means that by now children should recognize, write and show the value of numbers from 1-10. It is important that you keep revising the work we do as we will continue working with numbers in the coming week.
Something I encourage you to do is playing with those number cards I gave you. Ask kids to put them in order 1-10. you can start with numbers 1-5 then add more according to the children's ability. Always make the game more challenging. you can also give them numbers 3-8 for example and keep changing the numbers to see whether they manage to put the in order.
Today we also got the PIGGY BANK of L-Istrina. I encourage you to ask the children to donate some of their own.
Just a little note about the communication book. Please make sure that if you need to ask something you can use the communication book the children have in their bag. This is why we have that copybook. It is for you not for the children. Another thing that I would like to tell you is that the home work pages are marked with HW on top. I check every workbook before they put it in their bag so please confirm with the blog and make sure they do the right pages. If they come with the wrong pages am sorry but it wont be their work....as we work the HW orally at school to make sure they understood what they have to do.

18th October
A few reminders..about the piggy bank and the money for the baguette. Those who are not taking please let us know so we dnt keep asking the children to get the money.
During this week we are working with numbers in ascending order I encourage you to do practice through games. You can write numbers on a rough piece of paper let the kids cut them out and stick them in order on another paper.
Revise sight words lines 1,2 and 3. When you read stories it is good to keep the sight words in mind and point them out to the children. So they see them in a context.

19th October
Today we did the letter Dd and continued with the work on numbers 1-10. Some children found it a bit hard to continue the numbers in order when we started counting eg. 4,5,6,....., or 6, 7,......, if possible please do some practice orally or with the number cards. if you think your child is finding it hard having all the numbers from 1-10 you can start with 1-5 then adding more numbers as you go along.
A game we played at school was giving the kids 5 numbers with 1 of the numbers that was incorrect eg 4,5,2,7,8 the children had to find the incorrect number and say which number should they put instead. In this case number 2 is incorrect and instead we have to put no6.
May I remind you to revise the 3 lines of sight words we did so far and read the words you find in the Phonics workbook up to today's HW.
In the children's bag please find a set of letters on handouts. Kindly do as we did with the number cards. Please write the child's name at the back before you laminate them. Once they are ready please put them in a pocket or plastic bag and keep them in the children's bags so they can be used at school and at home.
You can use them to build the 3 letter words we have on the Phonics book especially with the children who cannot read the words yet and have difficulty with writing.

Maths we started ordering in descending order 10-1. I encourage you to do some practice playing with the cards.
